Voting
How voting works on LocalsVoted, and what to do when a place is missing.
How does voting work?
Open a board and press Vote on the place you pick. Rank comes only from votes, and each person gets one vote per board per month. Nothing else decides the order.
When can I vote on a board again?
After you vote, that board’s vote buttons rest until the first of next month. A month ends at midnight Pacific Time on its last day.
Why do I sign in with a mobile number?
Every voter signs in with a mobile number, so one number means one person. Your votes are private: we show how many votes a place has, never who voted for it, and we never use your number to contact a business.
What is Keep voting?
Keep voting shows a quick card for each board you have not voted on this month. A card shows five places drawn at random from the board’s top ten, so it never shows who is leading. Skipping a card is never a vote.
Why was I asked to confirm I am 18?
Some boards are for adult-oriented businesses. To vote on one, add a place to one or start one, you tick “I am 18 years old or older” once. Reading these boards never needs it. They are marked as adult content and are not listed on city pages.
What does the vote count show?
The number next to a place is the number of people who voted for it. Each board shows its top ten; nothing below ten shows a rank or a count. Final results of each closed month are published on a winners page.
Why is a place missing, and how do I add it?
Open the board, sign in, and use Find or add a place. Places come from Google, and a place you add joins the board once it passes the automatic check. Adding a place is free. A business that is hidden or closed is left out of rankings.
