Rank and fairness
How rank is decided, and why no business can pay for it.
How is rank decided?
Rank comes only from votes. There are no star ratings, reviews or editors.
How are ties broken?
A tie is broken in a fixed order: the place with more votes all-time comes first, then the places the board’s starter ranked first, then the place that was added earlier.
Can a business pay for a better rank?
No. No business can pay for rank or placement, and paying for any feature never affects rank.
Can a business reward people for voting?
No. A business may not give or promise anything in return for votes. A business that rewards votes may be delisted. If you see this, report it.
How do county, state and country pages rank places?
They add up the votes cast on the topic’s city boards and rank each business by that total. These pages have no votes, vote buttons or places of their own, and a vote belongs to one city board only, so nothing counts twice.
