LocalsVoted Privacy Policy

Last updated: Oct 24, 2026

1. Who we are

LocalsVoted is a website where people vote for the best local businesses, by topic and city, on boards titled "Best [topic] in [city]". County, state and country pages summarize the votes cast on city boards. Rank comes only from votes. No business can pay for rank.

This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to localsvoted.com and every page and feature on it (the "Service").

The Service is operated by Locals Voted LLC, a Washington limited liability company ("LocalsVoted", "we", "us"), 8120 Hardeson Rd #4136, Everett, WA 98203. For any privacy question, contact us at [email protected].

The Service is offered in the United States and is intended for United States residents. Our servers and data are located in the United States. If you use the Service from another country, you are sending your information to the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live. We do not offer the Service to people in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, and we do not claim to meet the data-protection laws that apply there.

2. The short version

  • We ask for your mobile number only to sign you in and to keep voting fair (one account per person). We do not sell it, and we never use it to contact a business.
  • Your votes are private. We show how many votes a business has, never who voted for whom.
  • We create boards and listings from open business data, from each business's own website, and from what people tell us. We do not copy business details or photos from Google, Bing or Yelp.
  • We count page views and clicks so a business can see interest in its own listing. A business sees totals only, never who viewed or voted.
  • We do not collect your precise location.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

3. Information you give us

  • Your mobile number, to sign in. We send a one-time code by text and verify it. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We keep one account per verified number.
  • Your profile: a display name you choose, and an optional photo. Your display name is public. Photos and logos you upload are checked automatically against our content rules (see sections 12 and 14), and may be held for review before they are shown. If you choose "Make it a LocalsVoted-style picture", the photo you cropped is also processed by our AI image provider as described in section 12. During onboarding we may also ask for your full name, an email address, and your city, and your choice about text updates. If you give an email address we send a confirmation link to it, and we keep the time and the address you confirmed.
  • Adult-board confirmation: if you confirm that you are 18 or older to vote on, add a place to, or start an adult-oriented board, we keep the time and the wording version of your confirmation on your account.
  • Acceptance of the Terms and this Policy: when you sign in we keep the time and the version (the "Last updated" date) of the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy you accepted, on your account. It is deleted when your account is deleted and is included in your data download.
  • Saved offers: when you save a Locals offer from a business we keep the offer text, its code and date, and the month, with your account. We also keep which offer you hold from a business until it expires, so that you can hold only one offer per business at a time. Saved offers are private to you (see Section 13).
  • Boards and places you create or add: the topic and city of a board, the businesses you add, and the order you rank them. If you add a place we could not find in our data, we also keep what you typed (name, city, website, address, phone), the time you confirmed it was accurate, and how we checked it.
  • Votes you cast. Votes are private (see Section 7).
  • Claims and reports: if you claim a business you may give a business email, a business phone number, a logo, website, hours, and a short description. Staff and a claimant can exchange messages about a claim, and the claimant may attach documents (for example a business licence or a utility bill) that only you and our staff can see. If you report a business as closed, report a problem, or ask for a correction or removal, we keep the report, your email if you give one, and our answer.
  • Payments: when you pay (to create a board or buy the business plan) our payment processor, Stripe, collects and processes your card details. We do not receive or store your full card number; we keep a record that a payment was made, its amount and currency, and Stripe's reference. When you buy the business plan we also keep proof of what you agreed to (the time, the disclosure you saw and your confirmation) and a log of the renewal notices we sent you.
  • Messages to us, such as support email and the contact form (name and email).

4. Information we collect automatically

  • Approximate location from your internet (IP) address: our hosting provider tells us your US state, which we use only to choose what the home page shows first. We do not store it. You choose your city yourself.
  • Precise location: we do not collect it. We do not use your device's location, and our site tells your browser not to allow it.
  • Activity events: page views and presses on links, buttons, the Vote button, shares, and QR scans, together with the page, the business or board involved, the kind of link, and where the visit came from. Each visitor is counted once per day using a rotating per-day key, without storing an internet address.
  • Vote integrity key: each vote stores a short one-way key made from your internet address and browser, using a secret that changes every month. We use it only to spot fake or coordinated voting within a month. The address itself is not stored, the key is never shown to businesses or the public, and it cannot be followed from one month to the next.
  • Free-board links: when you claim a free board through an influencer's link, we keep a short one-way key made from your internet address for about one day, only to limit how many free boards one internet address can claim. The address itself is not stored.
  • Search entries: what people type into search is kept as text, together with the city you were browsing when you had picked one (the city only, never a street or your location), with no account, address or cookie, and never when it contains an email address, a phone number or a long run of digits. Searches about health and adult topics are replaced by a single label and their words are not kept. Our staff read these entries as a report to improve the Service.
  • Hosting and security logs: our hosting provider records each request to the Service, which includes your internet address, the page address (including any search text in it), your browser type and the time, for operating, securing and fixing the Service. We keep these for a limited period set by our hosting provider.
  • Keep voting cards: if you use the Keep voting card game, the board and the places shown on each card, whether you voted, skipped, or said you had not tried any of the places, and when. Cards shown while you are signed in are tied to your account; a card shown while you are signed out is tied to it only if you then sign in and act on it. A "haven't tried any of these" answer keeps that board off your cards for the rest of the month. Skips are kept only as a record of the card. None of this is shown to anyone. A vote cast from a card is a vote like any other (see Section 7).
  • Device and browser storage: we keep small items on your device (for example, your chosen city and whether you have seen the first-visit pop-up) so the Service works and remembers your preferences. We do not use cross-site advertising trackers.
  • Google Analytics: on our public pages (not on account, owner, admin or start-a-board pages, and not on pages about health or adult topics; we leave pages out by page, not by who you are, so a signed-in person on a public page is counted too) we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are used. Google's script sets the cookies _ga and _ga_ followed by our stream code on your device, which last up to 2 years, and Google receives the page address (with the query string removed except the page tab and campaign tags such as utm_source), the page title, your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address, which Google states it does not log or store. We have turned off Google signals and ad personalization, and we do not use Google Ads, remarketing or any other advertising feature. We do not send Google your name, phone number, email address or account ID. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, or you turn counting off on our Cookies page, Google Analytics does not load. We use Google Analytics only on our live site, not on our test sites.

5. Information from third parties

  • Open data: much of the business information on LocalsVoted (name, address, phone, website, category) comes from the Places dataset of the Overture Maps Foundation, which combines open datasets and publishes each record with its sources. We keep a copy in our own database and show the release we use and the source licences on our Data sources page (localsvoted.com/about/data-sources). Overture data is public business data, not data about you, but the details of a business run by one person can identify that person (see below). Our copy runs in our own database and sends nothing back to Overture.
  • Business websites and our bot: to check a business's details, our program (the LocalsVoted bot, described at localsvoted.com/bot) may read the business's own public website: the home page and at most one contact page, looking for its name, address and phone number. It reads the site's robots.txt first and follows it, skips pages that ask not to be indexed or say they do not allow automated access, makes one request at a time, waits at least five seconds between requests, uses no cookies, never goes past a login or a CAPTCHA, and does not read social media, review sites, maps or directories. If a site refuses it, it does not return for 30 days. We keep the facts we find (name, address, phone), the address of the page they came from and the date, and a short log of each visit (the website address, the date, the result and the names of the fields found). We do not keep a copy of the page. This program is switched off at launch and we may turn it on later. If we do turn it on, from time to time it may re-read a business's website to see whether its details changed. A small change may be applied; a larger change, or any sign that a business has closed, goes to our staff first, and we never change details that an owner or our staff confirmed.
  • Sole proprietors: a phone number or address for a business run by one person can be personal information. When a page looks like it names an individual rather than a business, we keep the name but do not store the phone or address automatically; our staff decide. If you own or run a business, or you are named in a business listing, you can ask us to correct, hide or delete details about the business or about you, and to stop reading your website, by writing to [email protected] or [email protected]. After an opt-out we do not read your website again, and our staff remove what we took from it: each detail we took from your website goes back to the open-data value if we have one, or is left blank, and we delete the contact email we found there. A business name with no other source is kept until our staff confirm or replace it. We never change details that an owner or our staff confirmed. We keep a short log of earlier visits and a record of your opt-out, so that we do not read your site again.
  • Business contact information that the business itself has made public (for example, an email address on the business's own website, read only where its robots.txt allows), used only to send the owner a claim invitation by email. Each such email has an unsubscribe link and our postal address. Claim invitations to businesses are switched off today. We read an email address only where it is published on the business's own website as a contact address, where its robots.txt allows, and where we have not seen a notice on the site that addresses may not be used for email. We never call or text a business using a phone number we sourced. Details of a business, such as a phone number or email, may identify a sole proprietor; we treat them as personal information under this policy, including the retention and request rules in Sections 14 to 17.
  • Internal business email: if you are a business owner, we may keep a contact email address for your business, which we find on your business's own website or that you or someone from your business gives us, for our own staff to use internally to verify and correct your listing. We do not show it publicly or send anything to it unless we update this policy, and you can ask us at [email protected] to see it, correct it or delete it.
  • Stripe: confirmation that a payment succeeded, failed, or was refunded.
  • What we do not do: we do not read, copy or scrape Google Search, Google Maps, Bing, Yelp, social-media pages, review sites or delivery apps to learn about a business, and we do not use the Google Places API. A few older records may still show details first collected through Google Places; we are replacing them.

6. Your mobile number

Your mobile number is used to sign you in, to verify one account per person, and, only if you check the box to receive text messages, to send you marketing and promotional texts. We never use your number to contact a business, and we never share it with a business, unless you entered a number yourself while claiming your own business. We do not sell your number.

7. Voting is private

We show how many votes a business has received and its rank. We never show publicly which business a person voted for. Your profile shows how many votes you have cast, boards you started and places you added, never your individual choices. If you invite people with a share link, your private invites screen shows you the people you brought in (their public display name and photo, when they joined, and how many votes they have cast and boards they started), never which business any of them voted for. Votes are stored with your account so that we can enforce one vote per board per month and show you your own votes. No page in our admin tools lists who voted for which business, but our systems record it, and authorized staff with direct access to the database could read it to run, secure and audit the Service, to investigate fraud, and as the law requires.

8. How we use your information

  • Run the Service: show boards, record votes, rank businesses by votes, and keep rankings current.
  • Keep voting fair: verify one account per number, enforce one vote per person per board per month, and detect and prevent fake accounts, vote manipulation, and gamed referrals.
  • Check and keep current the business details we publish, including by reading a business's own website and by reviewing details people submit.
  • Process payments and refunds, provide paid features, and email the person who bought a business plan reminders before it ends (30 and 7 days ahead), with the renewal price.
  • Send service messages (sign-in codes always; receipts, review outcomes, claim invitations, and removal notices as needed) and, only with your consent, marketing and promotional texts.
  • Give a business owner analytics about their own listing.
  • Maintain security, prevent abuse, debug, and improve the Service.
  • Comply with law and enforce our Terms.

9. Text messages (SMS)

We always text you a one-time sign-in code when you sign in. We send marketing and promotional texts only if you turn on the text-updates choice, which is off by default, by checking the box to receive them. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help. You can revoke your consent at any time by replying STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE or OPT OUT, or in your account settings. Text features are available for United States numbers only. We may also text your own signed-in number a short account-security notice when you ask to delete your account, when you undo that request, and when the account has been deleted (at most one text for each). We text those three notices only if you have turned on text messages or you check "Also text me about this request" when you ask; otherwise we email them only, to a verified address. They are not marketing, are sent only to you, and STOP stops them too. Consenting to text updates is never a condition of using the Service. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes, and your text-message opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third party except the providers that send and record the messages for us. We keep a record of each time you agree to or stop texts (see Section 14). Marketing and account-notice texts are not sent until we switch them on; sign-in codes are sent today.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

We use strictly necessary storage to sign you in and keep the Service working, and local storage to remember preferences such as your city and whether you have seen the first-visit pop-up. We count our own visits with a rotating per-day key rather than a persistent advertising identifier. On public pages that are not about health or adult topics (including when you are signed in) we also use Google Analytics 4, which sets the first-party cookies _ga and _ga_ followed by our stream code (up to 2 years) to count visits and see which pages are used; Google signals and ad personalization are off and we use no advertising cookies, remarketing or cross-site tracking for ads. Sign-in checks use Google reCAPTCHA to tell people from automated programs, and Stripe's payment pages set their own cookies. We honor Global Privacy Control signals, and you can turn Google Analytics off at any time under "Analytics choice" on the Cookies page. The list of what we store on your device, and for how long, is on our Cookies page.

11. Location

Our hosting provider tells us your approximate US state from your internet address, which we use to choose what the home page shows first and do not store. We do not collect precise location, and we do not use your device's location.

12. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:

  • Service providers (subprocessors) who run the Service on our behalf, under contract: Google (Google Analytics, to count visits and see which pages are used on public pages; Firebase Authentication, which sends and checks your sign-in code; reCAPTCHA; and Google Cloud services that host the Service: App Hosting / Cloud Run, Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, Cloud Storage and logging), Microsoft (Azure: a managed PostgreSQL database that holds our copy of public Overture Maps place data and answers the place and city searches you type into the add-a-place and search boxes, so the words you type there are sent to it; plus an outside check that the site is up and a public status page, which hold no personal information), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Cloudflare (domain, security filtering and the routing of email sent to our addresses), a text-message provider (only once we turn texts on), our image providers (stock-image and AI-image services used to create topic pictures (the AI-image requests are not sent with the setting that asks OpenAI not to store them, so OpenAI keeps them under its own terms), and, only if you choose the optional "Make it a LocalsVoted-style picture" feature on your profile, the AI-image service that receives the photo you cropped so it can draw an illustrated version), our content-safety provider (OpenAI), which receives each uploaded photo or logo only to check it against our content rules, Anthropic (our AI provider, for the uses described in the next item), and print-and-ship vendors (only if we offer printed materials and you buy them: we share the shipping name and address you provide so the item can be mailed to you).
  • AI providers: We do not store the submitted photo or logo in our application after the check, apart from the resized version we show and photos held for review (see section 14). The photo check is required: if it cannot be completed, the photo is held for our staff instead of being shown. Our content-safety provider (OpenAI) may also check the text of some items waiting for staff review (for example a board topic); that text check is best effort, and if it is unavailable staff review the item without it. Our AI provider may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for safety and legal purposes unless our account is covered by an approved zero-retention arrangement. AI features are off on our live site today and are on only on our test site; we may switch them on later, and these paragraphs describe what they do when on. Anthropic may retain inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for safety and legal purposes unless a zero-retention arrangement applies to our account. We may use Anthropic for suggestions to our staff in our Admin tools, for answers to questions typed into the Help page, and for replying to plain contact messages. We send only the text needed for the task, with email addresses, phone numbers, links, long numbers and the names of the people involved removed; the rest of the text is sent as written, so it can still contain anything else a person wrote. We never send photos or claim documents, and we do not send items with adult or sexual wording, items about schools for children (K-12), or wording our automatic checks block. We do not exclude health topics: masked text about a doctor, clinic or similar business can be sent (see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy). We do not save the question you type into the Help page box or its answer. We do not link it to you or your account; please do not include personal information in your question. A person makes every decision on staff suggestions, you can always reach our staff through the contact form, and an automatic reply to a contact message says that it was written automatically and that a person will read your reply. We also close exact repeats of earlier reports by fixed rules; nothing is sent to an AI provider for that. If we switch it on, we may also use Anthropic to help check a business that someone adds: we send only public business facts (the business name, city and state, its category, its website address, public details found on its own website, and up to three candidate matches from open data), never your name, email, phone number, account number or internet address, your notes, or any document, and a sole proprietor's phone number and address are masked and not sent. The model only reads and compares the facts; fixed rules in our software decide whether to approve, and anything unclear, sensitive (adult, health, schools for children) or that cannot be checked goes to our staff. We keep a record of each automatic decision, and a person reviews a sample and can undo any approval. These features may be switched off at times.
  • The public: your display name, the boards you start and places you add, and winners pages, are public, may be indexed by search engines and may be read and used by AI services as our robots.txt allows. Winners pages are frozen and kept permanently.
  • Legal and safety: to comply with law, enforce our Terms, or protect rights, safety, and the integrity of voting.
  • Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
  • Aggregated or de-identified information, which cannot reasonably identify you.

13. What a business can see

A claimed business with an active plan can see analytics about its own listing only: page views, impressions (how often its name was shown on a board page), votes, link clicks, where visits came from, and its rank on each board. It sees this history from the day its plan started, and the history carries over when the plan is renewed within 30 days of ending; if a plan lapses for longer than 30 days, what the business sees starts again from its new start date. A business never sees who viewed or who voted. Any breakdown smaller than five is shown as "fewer than five". Counts exclude known bots and the owner's own visits. A business that publishes a Locals offer sees only how many people saved it, never who. Your saved offers are visible only to you.

14. How long we keep information

  • Account and profile information: while your account is active, and as needed afterward for legal, accounting, or dispute purposes.
  • Photos you send to make a LocalsVoted-style picture: we do not keep the photo you send or the picture it makes beyond that one request; we save only the picture you choose, as your profile photo, until you change or remove it or delete your account. Our AI image provider handles the photo under its own terms and retention rules, which we do not control.
  • Photos and logos held for review: every photo or logo you upload is checked automatically against our content rules before it is shown. If the check flags it, or cannot be completed, we keep it privately (visible only to you and our staff) until staff decide. It is deleted when staff reject it, and automatically after 30 days if no decision is made. If you delete your account while a photo is held, that file is removed by this 30-day clean-up, not at the moment of deletion. A photo or logo that passes is kept only as the resized version we show; we do not keep the original you uploaded.
  • Votes: kept so rankings and winners remain accurate. If you delete your account, your votes are kept without your name and detached from your profile: they no longer carry your account id or your number, and no profile, list or admin screen shows them as yours. What remains: each vote keeps its board, business, month and time, and one code is put on all the records of the deleted account, so records from one deleted account can still be grouped together. Until the vote integrity key is cleared (next item) a vote also still holds that one-way key. We do not promise that someone with direct access to our database could never work out whose votes they were.
  • Vote integrity key: cleared 60 days after the end of the month in which the vote was cast.
  • Boards you started and places you added: kept if you delete your account, shown as "a former member".
  • Places you added that we could not verify: they expire 30 days after you add them (we mark them expired when our scheduled check runs or when you next view your submissions) and are never shown publicly. Once a place is expired, rejected or added, we keep the record of it (its name, city and status) so we can answer questions and stop repeats, and we clear what you typed for it (website, address and phone) and anything we read from its website 90 days after it closed. An expired or rejected record is then deleted 24 months after it closed; the record of a place that was added stays while the business is listed. After you delete your account it no longer carries your account. A place still waiting when you delete your account is deleted.
  • Places you added that we verified, and the record of how a place was matched to open data and checked: kept as long as the business is listed. These records do not carry your account after you delete it.
  • Unpaid board drafts you start yourself: removed 7 days after the last change or after you delete them. That 7-day clean-up does not remove drafts made as part of a batch, drafts started from a business menu, or drafts that a payment or invoice points to. Unpaid drafts made as part of a batch or started from a business menu, and failed or cancelled drafts, are removed 30 days after the last change, unless a payment or invoice points to them. Unpaid, failed and cancelled drafts are deleted with your account.
  • A scrambled form of your mobile number after you delete your account: so that deleting and signing up again cannot give a second vote on the same board in the same month, we keep a one-way scrambled form (a salted hash) of your number, with the boards you had voted on that month, for about 35 days; because the clean-up job runs monthly it can stay for up to about two months. It is never your number, it is used for nothing else, and it is then deleted.
  • Records of your text choices: when you agreed to or stopped texts, the wording you saw, where you did it, and a one-way scrambled form of your number (not the number) are kept after you delete your account, with your account id removed, for as long as we need them as compliance records (we do not delete them on a schedule). This is separate from the 35-day scrambled number above.
  • Winners pages: kept permanently as a public record.
  • Activity events: raw events are kept for 13 months, then only de-identified monthly totals (no visitor key, user or internet address) are kept permanently, so we can show businesses totals, understand how the Service is used, and improve it. We do not show activity to a business for any period before its plan started.
  • Search entries: deleted after 90 days.
  • Claim messages: kept like the claim. Claim documents: deleted 90 days after the claim is decided.
  • Website facts and visit logs for a business (see Section 5): kept as long as the business is listed and as needed to run and audit the checks, but removed when the website opts out (Section 5); the visit log (the site, the page address, the time and the outcome of each request our bot made) is deleted 12 months after the visit; we do not keep copies of web pages. A sole proprietor's phone and address are kept only if our staff approve them.
  • Staff suggestions, automatic checks and automatic replies: the text and our decisions are stored in their own records. Suggestions and automatic replies are deleted 12 months after they were made, and the records of automatic place checks 24 months after they were made. One about a report, claim, message or item that is still open or waiting for review is kept until it is closed, and one about a report or claim that has been removed is deleted as soon as our clean-up job runs.
  • Payment records: kept as the law requires for tax, accounting and disputes, typically up to seven years. The proof of what you agreed to when you bought a plan and the renewal notice logs have no deletion schedule: we keep them as long as we need them as compliance records. All of these are kept after you delete your account, with your account id removed.
  • Backups: our database is backed up daily and the provider keeps backups for a limited period; information we delete may remain in encrypted backups until they expire. Hosting and security logs are kept for the period set by our hosting provider.

15. Security

We protect the Service with phone-based sign-in, server-side enforcement of voting and account rules, encryption in transit, controlled and logged staff access, private storage for claim documents and held photos, and reliance on Stripe for card data so that we never hold full card numbers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach of security affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires (in Washington, as soon as possible and no later than 30 days after we discover it).

16. Your choices and rights

  • Edit your city in your account at any time. Your display name is chosen once; to change it, write to [email protected].
  • Turn text updates on or off, and reply STOP (or any of the other words in the Text Terms) to any text.
  • Unsubscribe from emails using the link in any email.
  • Delete your account yourself, any time, in the app: Account, then Settings, then Delete account, then "Delete my account" (you confirm with a new texted code and need an email address on the account). We delete the account 48 hours after you ask, and you can undo the request any time before then (sign in and press Undo, or use the link in the email we send you); during those 48 hours your public page is hidden and you cannot vote or start boards. We email you when you ask, if you undo, and when it is done, if the address on the account is verified. When it runs, deleting removes your profile, profile photo, name, email, home city, saved offers and sign-in, and clears the email you gave on any report (the text of a report stays); an address that is on our do-not-email list because of an unsubscribe or a bounce stays there on purpose so that we do not write to it again; votes are kept anonymised, boards and places you added stay as "a former member", and payment records are kept as described in Section 14 and where required by law. If you manage a business page you must release it first; if you have an active business plan, contact us. You can also ask by writing to [email protected].
  • Download a copy of your data yourself, in the app: Account, then Settings, then Delete account, then "Download my data" (a file with your profile, votes, boards, places, saved offers, claims, payments and notices). It does not include claim messages and attachments, reports and contact messages you sent, your email and notification choices, or the records of your text consent and plan agreements; write to [email protected] for those.
  • Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information using the buttons above, or by writing to [email protected]. If you own or run a business, or are named in a business listing, you can also ask us to correct, hide or delete details about the business or about you (see Section 5).

17. Your US state privacy rights

Depending on your state (for example, California, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to access or receive a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. We offer these choices to everyone in the United States, whether or not a state law requires it. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have not done so in the past 12 months, so there is nothing to opt out of in that respect. We treat your mobile number as sensitive personal information and use it only for the purposes described here; we do not collect precise location. We do not use your information to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you without a person's involvement, except that the automated business-listing check may approve (never reject) a listing, and a person can always review it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity, you may use an authorized agent, and we aim to answer within 45 days (and tell you if we need more time). If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our response, and we will answer the appeal within 45 days; if you are still not satisfied you may contact your state attorney general (in Washington, atg.wa.gov). We honor Global Privacy Control signals.

Washington's My Health My Data Act gives extra rights over "consumer health data". Some information on a board about a health topic (for example a vote for a clinic) can count as consumer health data. We keep health-related pages and searches out of Google Analytics and do not share them with third parties other than the service providers listed in Section 12, and we explain what we collect, why, and your rights in our separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

18. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are between 13 and 18, use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and do not make any payment without their consent. Adult-oriented boards are for people 18 and older. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Contact [email protected] with any concern.

19. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, give notice through the Service, and by email to your verified email address, before they take effect. If you have no verified email address, the notice in the Service is the only notice you receive. If a change adds a new use of sensitive personal information (such as your mobile number) or a new kind of sharing that needs your consent, we will ask for your consent first and will not rely on your continued use.
